The last time I saw Rococode their drummer missed his flight to Victoria for V.I.C. Fest, and a bunch of locals rotated in to fill his role. It’s one of those great things that often happens here in the Victoria music scene.

Lucky Bar has for a long time been one of my favourite bars to see bands perform at. It kind of squeezes you in and gets the crowd right up in front of the stage. The brick walls, awesome sound, neon signs, hotdogs, fooseball table, and giant cobra head are just icing on the cake.

With that said some nights it is almost unbearable to shoot in there. It’s dark, backlight, foggy, and can be a struggle. It pushes you to work hard. It’s a realization that sometimes you really need to put the effort in to get a good shot. It’s what you need sometimes to remind you why you do what you do.

The first time I can remember hearing Rococode was during their stint as The Zone’s Band of The Month. I really dug the single “Empire” that they played on air. Since then I’ve seen them play a handful of shows around Victoria, and every time they put on a decent rock show. Their music can be fun, poppy, and dark. It’s one of those things I like these days.

Rococode will be back on The Island at the end of June for the Tall Tree Festival.
